While visiting family in Mexico, teenage Alex gains an unlikely companion when he discovers a young chupacabra hiding in his grandpa's shed. To save the mythical creature, Alex and his cousins must embark on the adventure of a lifetime.
Chupa was truly a unique project and a labor of love. Chupa is a family adventure movie centered around a group of cousins and a fantastical baby Chupacabra. Shot in New Mexico over the course of 4 months, weather was not the only challenge for this project. Shooting primarily on Alexa 65, with some scenes utilizing the Alexa Mini LF, 95% of the film utilized a remote head which I was trained on and teched for the run of the show. Many of our setups were staged as long takes centered around the three main kids and the baby Chupa. This made focus pulling a challenge (as Chupa was invisible on set) and forced myself, cinematographer Nico, and director Jonás to constantly be communicating on camera movement and focus so as to make the VFX seamless and grounded.
